Rest In Peace Donna We will always love to love you baby :) Donna passed away today May 17, 2012. at her home in Key West, Florida at age 63 following a battle with cancer Thanks to everyone for the many warm tributes "Love to Love You Baby" is a song by American singer Donna Summer released in 1975. It became one of the first ever disco hits to also be released in an extended form. By 1975, Summer had been living in Germany for eight years and had participated in several musical theatre shows. She had also released an album in Europe entitled Lady of the Night, written by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte and produced by Bellotte, which had given her a couple of hit singles. She was still a complete unknown in her home country when she suggested the lyric "Love to Love You Baby" to Moroder in 1975. He turned the lyric into a full disco song and asked Summer to record it. The full lyrics were somewhat explicit and at first Summer said she would only record it as a demo to give to someone else. However, Summer's erotic moans and groans impressed Moroder so much that he persuaded her to release it as her own song, and "Love to Love You" became a moderate hit in the Netherlands. -wikipedia

It was introduced from Persia and Central Asia, 2000 years ago through the Silk Road trade and this is why it fits very much in the Silk Road Ensemble." Kayhan Kalhor plays the Kamancheh. "My intrument Kamancheh is a bowed instrument," he explained. "The very different thing from other bow instruments is that you bow in one direction but you turn the instrument in order to reach different strings." Wu Man said the method of playing her ancient pipa has been brought up to date. "You use five fingers to play. You use fake fingernails which is a very modern way. This started in the 50s, with four strings and bamboo frets." Wu Man and Kayhan Kalhor are members of the Silk Road Ensemble in which musicians from different cultures come together. The project is named after the famous Silk Road, which allowed different cultures to mingle over 2000 years as it carried trade between Europe, central Asia and the Far East. Kayhan Kalhor spoke a little more about his kamancheh. "The way it looks is probably a little different from western violin but its basically the same concept," he said. "Somewhere along the road in the history this instrument came out of Persia and went eastwards to China and Japan and then westwards to Europe." The variety of instruments makes the ensemble unique. It was founded by the world renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma in 1998. It is all about exchanging ideas. Members of the ensemble try to pass on their experiences to the next generation. On their Asia tour they took time to give workshops like here in Seoul. Youngsters aged between eight and 12 play in the Sejong Youth Harmony Orchestra. They get lessons and the instruments for free. Their families can not afford musical education. "What I really appreciate is to work with people that don't have necessarily as many opportunities and chances to interact, to learn, to have direct contact in the creation of something," cellist Yo-Yo Ma explained. "I feel that these experiences as well as performances... the reason to do them is to make them memorable. Memorable for somebody else as well as for ourselves. For somebody else you hope that these experiences can accumulate and be added so that they form the individual." The ensemble is on a constant musical journey bridging the gap between eastern and western music. "It's a different kind of music," said Kalhor. "It's another language, it's very different, its very colourful and you learn to think in a bigger frame than you usually think in your own musical culture." Tony Bingham, a sincere friend, found our location for this video at the last minute - and we were of course elated. But on the shooting day in question, the skies produced rain clouds for miles. I sat silently, thinking how I'd finally gotten to shoot a music video for this band (I had already directed their EPK and documentary), and now the heavens were not cooperating. Clearly a disaster was abound. I decided to shoot anyway. Maybe two takes in, I'd pretty much given up on the clip having any signature look...everything was drab, muddy and dark. But within, it seemed, seconds, a wondrous thing happened. I received a call from my steadicam operator who said prior his schedule would not allow for him to be there - now he was asking for directions. My smile began. Once he arrived, the cloud cover peeled back. We had a stretch of about 3 hours of moist sunlight! Outstanding! After a bit of fertile photography, we packed up and left the farm location, stumbling accidently on a small shack in the middle of nowhere. Funny, when I entered the rickety structure, a visible hole stood out in the middle of the place. I thought out loud, "Quick, let's place the camera down there, and spin it in a circle to catch each band member in a different part of this open house. Worked like a charm! And when I suggested Speech sit in the window, the sun grew brighter for our two only takes. God...is all one can say. We traveled back to downtown ATL, where I was favored with the distinct honor of working with famed artist, Radcliffe Bailey. A polished professional. He braved rush hour traffic, and seedy alleyways for us to capture what was pure about his work even then. We ended our spirited day at the Scoville Hotel, where we finalized our efforts for the remainder of the concept.
